Emirates’ double-decker Airbus A380 is a legend of the skies, and its Business Class cabin remains one of the most aspirational ways to fly long-haul. We recently boarded flight EK202 from New York (JFK) to Dubai (DXB) to review the seat, service, dining, and the iconic onboard lounge bar.
The Ground Experience
At JFK Terminal 4, Emirates Business Class passengers enjoy dedicated check-in lanes and expedited security. The Emirates Lounge offers a quiet sanctuary with hot buffet items, premium spirits, and direct boarding from the lounge itself straight into the upper deck of the A380. No queuing at the gate — a seamless start to a luxury journey.
The Cabin and Seat
The A380’s upper deck is configured in a 1-2-1 layout, meaning every passenger has direct aisle access. The staggered seats offer differing levels of privacy — the "true" window seats (A and K rows) are closest to the window with the console table on the aisle side, providing the highest degree of seclusion.
The seat itself features woodgrain finishes, a personal minibar stocked with soft drinks, and a massive 23-inch ICE entertainment screen. When it's time to sleep, the seat folds down into a fully flat 70-inch bed, and cabin crew provide a comfortable mattress pad, pillow, and duvet.
Dining & Onboard Service
Emirates operates a multi-course, dine-on-demand service. We enjoyed an appetizer of traditional Arabic mezze, followed by a pan-fried beef fillet with rosemary jus, and finished with a chocolate dome dessert. The wine list was exceptional, featuring Dom Pérignon in First and vintage Bordeaux in Business.
The Onboard Lounge
The crown jewel of the Emirates A380 experience is the horseshoe-shaped onboard lounge at the back of the upper deck. Open exclusively to Business and First Class passengers, it features a dedicated bartender serving champagne, cocktails, and light bites. It’s a fantastic place to stretch your legs, socialize, and chat with fellow travelers at 40,000 feet.
The Verdict
While some of Emirates' older Boeing 777 aircraft still feature a dated 2-3-2 layout in Business, the A380 remains a gold standard. The combination of direct aisle access, dine-on-demand, and the legendary onboard bar makes this one of the finest premium cabin experiences in aviation.
